On March 28–29, a team-building event took place in Kyiv for doctors and nurses from mobile medical units providing assistance in Kramatorsk. Over the course of two days, participants not only enhanced their teamwork but also focused deeply on the essential topic of palliative care delivery.
The training sessions were led by experienced specialists Zoya Maksymova and Olena Kovalenko. The medical staff gained valuable knowledge and practical tools to support their daily work in caring for palliative patients.
The agenda included the following topics:
- Philosophy of palliative care and patient-centered approach
- Prevention of emotional burnout among healthcare workers
- Management of chronic pain and use of opioids
- Communication with patients and delivering bad news
- Care for immobile patients, including the use of feeding tubes and catheters
- Symptom control in complex and terminal conditions
This event was part of the project "Health for All: Supporting Conflict-Affected Communities and Rebuilding the Health System in Eastern Ukraine", implemented by the Health Solutions Charitable Foundation in partnership with the international humanitarian organization CARE.Ukraine, with financial support from the Ministry of the Interior of the Czech Republic under the MEDEVAC czech program.
The event marked an important step in improving the quality of palliative care delivery in the region and supporting healthcare professionals working under challenging conditions.
