Project Description

The project "Architecture that Heals" was created in collaboration with the Kharkiv School of Architecture (HSA) and consists of two main components:

  1. Supporting Communities in designing inclusive spatial solutions.
  2. A podcast on Radio SKOVORODA, where we discuss challenges and potential solutions for Ukrainian communities during wartime and post-war conditions, engaging experts from various fields related to spatial design.

Project Goal

The goal of this project is to draw public attention to the necessity of creating inclusive spaces that meet the needs of all residents.

Successful Implementation

The charity organization "First May City Charity Fund 'Dzheryelo'" successfully implemented the project "Arranging a Sports Ground," which has now been continued within the framework of the initiative "Architecture that Heals." With the support of the charity fund "Health Solutions," HSA students, under the guidance of Daria Ozhyhanova, are working on the requests of the First May City Council.

Project Stages

  • Sports Ground: Located on the territory of a geriatric center, which was previously a kindergarten.
  • Creating an Inclusive Space: Considering the needs of center residents and veterans of the community.

Student Groups

HSA students are divided into groups to process and implement requests. They will prepare models of spatial interventions and a guide titled "Spatial First Aid Kit" with instructions and recommendations. The idea is that all interventions will be adaptable for use in other communities.

First-year students of KSA developed therapeutic spaces as part of the "Spatial First Aid Kit" project, focusing on rehabilitation, accessibility, and rapid implementation. During the workshops, they explored the impact of architecture on health and proposed practical solutions for rehabilitation centers in Ukraine. Some of the projects have already been implemented near the Lviv Regional Clinical Hospital, with others planned for installation in different communities. The simplicity and effectiveness of these structures demonstrate that even temporary solutions can have a lasting impact.

Project Presentation

Students have already presented their projects at HSA in Lviv. The next stage is the implementation of their works in healthy communities.

Podcast "Architecture that Heals"

We invite you to listen to our new podcast in collaboration with HSA, where we explore how architecture impacts human and community health.
