The study "Addiction in the Defense Forces of Ukraine: Studying the Situation" was conducted by the Sociologist Research Bureau at the request of the Kharkiv With You Charitable Foundation, with the support of the Health Solutions Charitable Foundation. It is based on in-depth interviews with doctors from civilian and military medical institutions, combat medics, military psychologists, unit commanders, as well as veterans with experience of psychoactive substance (PAS) use or addiction.

This study explores key aspects of the issue:

• Risk factors contributing to addiction among military personnel;
• Social and psychological barriers that hinder open discussions about addiction;
• Commanders’ approaches to working with service members struggling with addiction;
• Existing mechanisms for treatment, rehabilitation, and support.

Providing adequate support for military personnel and veterans facing addiction requires a comprehensive approach. We hope that the findings of this study will contribute to the development of effective solutions for their rehabilitation and care.
